Product Review: Paula’s Choice Liquid Exfoliant

Paula's Choice BHA

I have been a fan of Paula Begoun for over 10 years now. I have always had acne prone skin and many years ago, someone recommended I pick up “Don’t Go To The Cosmetic Counter Without Me”, the book served as my beauty bible for many years. I purchased many products based solely on Paula’s recommendations. So I few weeks ago, on a whim, I decided to try a product from Paula’s skincare line Paula’s Choice. I had been breaking out and was in the market for a new exfoliant  product.  I purchased the Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant As usual, Paula did not disappoint!

The first time I used this beta hydroxy acid (BHA) product, I applied it at night and I saw a difference the very next morning. I had some acne coming in and it knocked almost all of them out except for a pesky zit on my cheek, but 2 days later, it was completely gone. I read some reviews on the site from consumers that said this product made their skin oily, that was not my experience. But then again, I already have oily skin and I do not think this contributed to it at all. I highly recommend this product. My skin is so much clearer and it has also helped with my hyper pigmentation. Salicylic acid allows the cells on your skin to loosen allowing dead skin cells to sloth off and make room for new skin. If you have never used a BHA product before, I would recommend starting office with every other day to see how it works for you. I do not use this product everyday although you certainly can. I would say when my skin is fairly clear, I use it every 2-3 days. If I have been traveling, I will use it more daily as I have a tendency to slack on my skin care regimen when I am away from home.

As a side note, and this is also mentioned on the site, if you have an allergy to aspirin, you definitely was to stay away from this product. Salicylic acid is a derivative of aspirin.

This is off course my opinion on this BHA.

Kimye Does Balmain

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2014

Love them or hate them, 2014 was the year of Kimye. This year, the much talked about couple had a wedding that rivaled the royal wedding. Everything about them is over the top. Say what you will about Kimye, they certainly have a way of getting us to talk about their every move. Not to be out done by little sister Kendall, Kim Kardashian and Rapper Kanye West posed for fashion house Balmain for a Spring 2015 ad. They obviously look amazing. I know they are not smiling because they want to give us that “I am a model, I am starving and my facial muscles are too weak to smile” look, but I can’t help but wonder if it also points to the state their marriage! But I digress, below I give you fierceness and fabulosity ala KIMYE!!!

Making The 2015 Color Of The Year Work For You

Pantone_Introducing_Color_of_the_Year_Marsala_banner

Every year, the lovely people of Pantone announce the new color of the year. The color for 2015 is Marsala. The wine influenced color is described as ”Hardy, robust, satisfying, fulfilling. At the same time there’s a certain glamour that’s attached to this color,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. The reception to this color pick has been mixed. I for one love it. Really, marsala is really close to burgundy which is a shade that is flattering on just about everyone. Here are some of my favorite marsala shade fashion pieces and celebrities already rocking marsala!

My Unexplained Absence From Blogging

20141110_114947

Over the past few months, I have been inexplicably absent from my beloved blog Colour Me Glam. This past couple of years, my bog has been my great escape. As I always say, nothing gets me more excited that a new shade of lipstick, eyeshadow palette or a new pair of shoes! Life came to somewhat of a halt earlier this year. In the summer I purchased a new home yay!!! But I was also diagnosed with a carcinoid tumor; not so great. In its simplest definition, a carcinoid tumor is a gastrointestinal cancer that forms in the lining of the gastrointestinal tract.

Needless to say, after my diagnosis, I was pulled in many different directions, seeing one specialist after another (I really did start feeling like a science project). Eventually, my doctors decided the best course of treatment was an endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR). The procedure was fairly routine and would require practically zero recovery time. With EMR, doctors would be able to remove the tumor with very little discomfort to me.

Well, as they say, we make plans and God smiles. Due to a series of complications,  I spent 5 days in the hospital and 3 weeks out of work recuperating.

My family has always been in corner and it sometimes takes moments like this to remind me of just how awesome they truly are. I really have to pinch myself because I can’t believe how lucky I am. The day of the accident, my sister hopped on a plane from Houston to be by side and spent every night by my bedside in the hospital. My parents and aunts came to DC and took amazing care of me.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention my amazing, thoughtful and beautiful friends who dropped what they where doing to be by my side. I cannot even begin to thank them for everything they have done for me. We may not be related by blood, but they are my family and I thank God for them everyday.

My colleagues and long distance friends were equally amazing, sending cards, flowers and best wishes. All of which made all the difference in my recovery. I thank you all for everything and I look forward to getting back to life. This incident was a reminder of just how short life really is and I plan on making the most of everyday!

I am back to blogging and I couldn’t be happier!

Iconic Fashion Designer Oscar de la Renta Dies at 82

Iconic designer Oscar de la Renta has died at the age of 82 from cancer. The designer has been battling cancer since 2006.

The prominent designer was born in Dominican Republic in 1932. At the age of 18, he left home at to study painting in Madrid. There, he fell in love with fashion and apprenticed at some of the biggest fashion houses including Balenciaga and Lanvin.

Not long after, de la Renta moved to New York City to make a name for himself. While there he caught the eye of Jackie Kennedy and the rest as they say is history. Over the years, the designer would dress a number of first ladies including Nancy Reagan, Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush. Over more than five decades, de la Renta has also dressed countless celebrities including Julia Roberts, Oprah and most recently George Clooney’s wife Amal.

Oscar First Ladies

Of Mr. de la Renta, First Lady Hillary Clinton said “Oscar’s remarkable eye was matched only by his generous heart”.

If I could describe Oscar de la Renta’s fashion house it would be simply one word “Classic”. He knew how to dress women, looking back at his five decades of work, every piece is simply timeless and a work of art. He will be missed.

At Home Suave Spa Secrets

Sauve 1

There is nothing like going to spa and leaving all of your worries behind for an hour or forever. But alas, we can’t all live the life of Kim and Kanye so we will have to settle with going to the spa once in a blue moon. You can always create the spa experience at home for a significant ! Cue the Sade or Enya like tunes and drift away!

This past week, I have been using Suave® Professionals premium body care line. I used the Awapuhi Infusion Awapuhi Ginger & Honeysuckle and the Moroccan Infusion body wash. They smell amazing! After taking a shower, I just loved how the Awapuhi infusion made the entire room smell like a little bit of heaven!

Along with the body wash and lotions, the line also includes Moroccan Infusion Dry Body Oil Spray. The spray is a light mist and contains Moroccan argan oil and best part it is not greasy.

You can find the entire line at Target, Walmart or Walgreens.

Summer Meets Fall

Wednesday, September 24th, 2014

Getting into the fall season is always a tricky time for me and I am sure a lot of other people. On one hand, I LOVE fall and everything the comes with it including: all things pumpkin, amazing weather, cozy sweaters and riding boots, leaves changing color and of course FOOTBALL, Go Patriots

But on the other hand, fall also brings the realization that old man winter is just around the corner waiting to wreak havoc on my life with snow and bone chilling temperatures. So I decided that I would embrace fall this year while still holding on to summer for a tad bit longer (truth be told, I don’t believe in not wearing white after Labor Day). I love tartan print especially the one I am wearing which the Scottish refer to as Black Watch Tartan (you are welcome for this totes random trivia)!

And off course, fall wouldn’t be fall without Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte (yes, I know there isn’t actually pumpkin in the pumpkin spice latte! But there is also no such thing as a jolly fat man who delivers presents on Christmas! Ignorance can sometimes be bliss :-) 20140923_132448

Makeup Dupe: Smashbox vs. NYX Foundation Primers

Monday, September 22nd, 2014

PicMonkey Collage

The older I get, the more I realize that some of my spending habits are unwise. So with the wisdom that age brings, I have learned to cut down a few places  (and by wiser I  mean instead of buying 5 lipsticks at Sephora, I now buy 4… I think that means I am growing, no?).

I try to find duplicates wherever I can and my latest substitution is primer! For as long as primer has been a staple, Smashbox has been the go to for all of humanity. And there is a reason for it. A good primer will temporarily smooth out lines and make large pores appear smaller. primers also act as a barrier between you skin and makeup. It helps makeup last longer and look better.

The Smashbox primer checks in at $36 and the less expensive and just as impressive NYX cost $13. This is a case of more expensive does not equal better product. In this case, I will go to NYX for my primer.
