My Interview With Refinery29!!!

I am quoted in Refinery29 y’all! The article about is DC Style and it is no longer Hollywood for ugly people. I have posted an except below and linked to the entire article!

By Lauren Sherman

As a Washington, D.C.-based public-relations executive and beauty blogger, Colour Me Glam’s Manoucheka Attime is permitted to have a decent amount of fun with her wardrobe. That means brightly colored blazers, statement necklaces, and bold lipstick colors. But when Attime, 34, was working as an aide on Capitol Hill, she relied on dark suits and button-ups. “You’re not supposed to be the one standing out,” she says. “It’s not about you.”

That sentiment is a far cry from television shows set in the nation’s capital, like Scandal,House of Cards, and Madame Secretary, where power players are decked out in Armani suits and perfectly tailored Roland Mouret shift dresses. That’s because even in the age of Olivia Pope and Claire Underwood, real-life Capitol Hill style is still evolving.

The District’s fashion gets a bum rap, and not entirely without reason. Where the apparel industry fuels New York City’s obsession with underground labels and off-the-runway looks, and Hollywood’s casual M.O. has pinned it as the poster child for athleisure, D.C. intellects have long rejected anything other than a nondescript uniform. “People are more concerned with looking smart than pretty, or looking more senior at a meeting than snazzy at an event,” said one insider.

But why can’t they be both? There are a few things at play behind the explanation. Maybe most important, Washington is a company town whose business is world affairs. Glamour is downplayed. For many who run in the city’s high-powered circles, it’s still considered frivolous to appear too concerned with appearances. It’s certainly important to look well-kempt, but the idea is to blend in, not to stand out. Another point, less often addressed, is that fashion, for many of these executives, is not something they care to think about. It’s not just that they don’t want to look like they care, it’s that they simply don’t. The rest of the article is here…

Baby It’s Cold Outside

Coat (similar)

Spring maybe right around the corner, but baby, it’s cold outside! Here in DC, we have had pretty bad snowstorm. Alas, life must still go on as they say, so I grabbed my trusty fox fur coat and off I went into the frigid DC weather. The coat was a splurge during the holidays and the fur is just oh so soft. I bought this Ellen Tracy coat at Lord & Taylor, but it has now sold out. Nordstrom has the same brand and similar coat and it’s on sale!

Lilly Pulitzer For Target

Target never fails to impress with its designer collaborations. For Spring 2015, they are joining forces with a fashion house that is really one of my absolute favorites, Lilly Pulitzer. Lilly’s amazing prints will hit Target stores April 19 with prices ranging from $25-$250. Here’s a sneak peek of that fabulousness to come!

Kimye Does Balmain

Love them or hate them, 2014 was the year of Kimye. This year, the much talked about couple had a wedding that rivaled the royal wedding. Everything about them is over the top. Say what you will about Kimye, they certainly have a way of getting us to talk about their every move. Not to be out done by little sister Kendall, Kim Kardashian and Rapper Kanye West posed for fashion house Balmain for a Spring 2015 ad. They obviously look amazing. I know they are not smiling because they want to give us that “I am a model, I am starving and my facial muscles are too weak to smile” look, but I can’t help but wonder if it also points to the state their marriage! But I digress, below I give you fierceness and fabulosity ala KIMYE!!!

Making The 2015 Color Of The Year Work For You

Every year, the lovely people of Pantone announce the new color of the year. The color for 2015 is Marsala. The wine influenced color is described as “Hardy, robust, satisfying, fulfilling. At the same time there’s a certain glamour that’s attached to this color,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. The reception to this color pick has been mixed. I for one love it. Really, marsala is really close to burgundy which is a shade that is flattering on just about everyone. Here are some of my favorite marsala shade fashion pieces and celebrities already rocking marsala!

Iconic Fashion Designer Oscar de la Renta Dies at 82

Iconic designer Oscar de la Renta has died at the age of 82 from cancer. The designer has been battling cancer since 2006.

The prominent designer was born in Dominican Republic in 1932. At the age of 18, he left home at to study painting in Madrid. There, he fell in love with fashion and apprenticed at some of the biggest fashion houses including Balenciaga and Lanvin.

Not long after, de la Renta moved to New York City to make a name for himself. While there he caught the eye of Jackie Kennedy and the rest as they say is history. Over the years, the designer would dress a number of first ladies including Nancy Reagan, Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush. Over more than five decades, de la Renta has also dressed countless celebrities including Julia Roberts, Oprah and most recently George Clooney’s wife Amal.

Oscar First Ladies

Of Mr. de la Renta, First Lady Hillary Clinton said “Oscar’s remarkable eye was matched only by his generous heart”.

If I could describe Oscar de la Renta’s fashion house it would be simply one word “Classic”. He knew how to dress women, looking back at his five decades of work, every piece is simply timeless and a work of art. He will be missed.

Summer Meets Fall

Getting into the fall season is always a tricky time for me and I am sure a lot of other people. On one hand, I LOVE fall and everything the comes with it including: all things pumpkin, amazing weather, cozy sweaters and riding boots, leaves changing color and of course FOOTBALL, Go Patriots

But on the other hand, fall also brings the realization that old man winter is just around the corner waiting to wreak havoc on my life with snow and bone chilling temperatures. So I decided that I would embrace fall this year while still holding on to summer for a tad bit longer (truth be told, I don’t believe in not wearing white after Labor Day). I love tartan print especially the one I am wearing which the Scottish refer to as Black Watch Tartan (you are welcome for this totes random trivia)!

And off course, fall wouldn’t be fall without Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte (yes, I know there isn’t actually pumpkin in the pumpkin spice latte! But there is also no such thing as a jolly fat man who delivers presents on Christmas! Ignorance can sometimes be bliss :-)20140923_132448

Fab Fashion Friday

This week’s pick for Fab Fashion Friday is the absolutely adorable Sarah Hyland. The Modern Family star looked amazing in this Christian Siriano crop top and full skirt. Sarah was styled to absolute perfection! This is seriously the best she has ever looked.

Off course, I would love to wear a crop top, I just need to figure out how to get my ample bosom to fit into one (but I digress, let’s get back to Sarah)! Her makeup was also incredibly stunning and I have provided information about the products she is wearing.

Sarah’s makeup was GORGEOUS in its simplicity! Her makeup artist Allan Avendaño used the following: MAC Pigment in Naked from the inner corners of the eyes toward the center. At the outer corners, he applied MAC Eyeshadows in Swiss Chocolate, Smut and Bronze, and used MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle under the brow bones. For her cheeks, Allan used MAC Powder Blush in Style.
