My New Favorite Conditioner

Trader Joes 2

I am always in search of the perfect pair of jeans, blacks pants and hair products. A few weeks ago, on the recommendation of a few Youtube favorites, I decided to try Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Tingle Conditioner! I LOVE this conditioner and it is hands down one of my favorites and here is the best part, it is only $3.99!

I use it to co-wash my hair and it works wonders in bringing a spring to my hair. This creamy conditioner has really good slip and does wonders when detangling my hair.

I already shop at Trader Joe’s for all of my groceries and now I can add my hair products to the list!

I Have A NEW HAIRDO!

IMG_0258This past year, my hair has been in a state of confusion. It was 75% natural with 25% permed ends. Unlike most, I did not make a big decision to go natural. For me, it was a really slow walk. I was wearing extensions for sometime and by the time I removed it, I was half natural so I decided to go along with it.

Needless to say, I was really bored with my hair. It was not really long or short, it had zero body and really, I just needed a spring look. Enter Indya from Nival Salon and Spa. I went into this hair changing process totally committing myself to her creative genius (ok, I may have told her was that I was scared of MAJOR hair changes and while I was open to color and a cut I was not ready to go Rihanna bold)!

With that in mind, I went into the salon and had a consultation with this young maestro! After my consultation, we settled on an allover color with minor highlights framing my face. Indya selected a rich chocolate brown for my black hair and subtle golden highlights for the front.

Indya used a demi-permanent hair color from the L’Oreal Professionnel line. Demi-permanent hair color contains no peroxide, which means it’s much gentler on your strands, but also means that it won’t dramatically alter the color. It will warm up your color and give your hair more life.

Demi-permanent is much gentler on the hair than permanent color because it doesn’t open up the cuticle as much or penetrate inside the cortex of the hair shaft.  The integrity of the hair is better when the cuticle stays intact.” So with all of that, I give you my new hairdo! See the before and after!!!

Gossip Girl Inspired Headband

When Gossip Girl came out, my sister Fabiola would always tell me I just had to watch the show because one of the characters wore headbands religiously .

When I received this adorable headband from Andrea’s Beau, I was absolutely delighted.

I have a slight obsession with headbands! I think they are a great way to add some flair to your hair (pardon the rhyme). I am wearing the Indique Diamond Soft Headband and I love it! It is covered in beads, crystals and pearls!

So here is my Blair Waldorf inspired look!

Ultimate Beauty Social Event

Thanks to Ty Alexander of Gorgeous In Grey,  I had an opportunity to attend the African Pride Ultimate Social Beauty event this weekend at the Beacon Hotel in DC.

Guests were treated to a fantastic brunch hosted by some of DC’s beauty influencers including Lianne Farbes of The Makeup Girl; Panama Jackson of Very Smart Brothas, Erin Bailey of Scandalous Beauty; Joi-Marie McKenzie of The Fab Empire.

The intimate discussion garnered honest perspectives from both genders surrounding hair and beauty topics. The panelists delighted guest with their witty repertoire about misconceptions of black hair. One of my favorite topics was the length of time a women waits before she starts wrapping her hair at night in a new relationship.

The overwhelming consensus was if the guy is black, he should already know the scarf comes out at night!

We were also treated to a pretty sweet swag bag filled with full size products including Shea Butter Miracle Detangling Shampoo, Olive Miracle Anti-Breakage Formula and Smooth Edges Anti-Frizzy Conditioning Gel.

Check out My New Hair Style!

Heading into summer, I decided wanted to make a bit of a change. Ok, I made a pretty big change, I got extensions! I am so happy with the quality of the hair I received. My lovely sister Fabiola, researched and found this great vendor called Kinky Curly Yaki. Their prices are reasonable and they are very responsive. Just in case you are wondering, I am wearing the light yaki.

I decided this time around not to go too crazy with the length, however, I am having so much fun, I think next time around I will go for something more dramatic!

Along with my new hairdo, I also decided I wanted a new ensemble. Now, if you are anything like me, you probably have not been to the GAP in quite awhile. Might I say, I am very happy I stepped back into the GAP because I have been missing out! I found such amazing pieces at really reasonable prices. I am all about mixing high and low priced clothing! Case in point, my bold pink GAP shirt was $6, I paired my outfit with the Lauren Ralph Lauren Newbury Satchel which was $348!

Combat Excessive Hair Shedding With Tea Rinse

Black-Tea-is-Red-When-Brewed

Most women shed about 50-100 strands of hair per days. However, if you have ever had periods where you are experiencing excessive shedding, it might be time for a tea rinse. Keep in mind excessive shedding could be the result of many factors including stress or diet.

A popular remedy for excessive shedding is a black tea rinse. The caffeine in tea penetrates hair follicles and blocks DHT, the hormone responsible for hair shedding. The  tea rinse can also adds shine and softens hair. The rinse will also darken hair or bring out natural highlights.

You can use either green or black tea for the rinse. Black tea has more caffeine than green tea, so I would recommend starting with green tea and seeing how it agrees with your hair.

Rinse instructions: Add 2-4 tea bags to 2 cups of boiled water ( this may vary depending on how much hair you have), let it steep for a few hours or over night. Take the tea and pour on your hair after it has been shampooed, let it sit for 20-30 minutes. Then make sure you deep condition your hair after it has sat for 20-30 minutes adding the deep conditioner on top of your rinse.

Note: I did notice some tangling initially after the black tea rinse, but after doing the deep conditioning it softened nicely.

*Warning: tea stains so be sure to wear an old shirt or something you don’t mind staining.
