I recently visited Hela Spa in Georgetown for a facial and I have to say I was seriously impressed. The spa is located on the very metropolitan M st. NW in DC. Walking into the spa, I felt like the universe was rewarding me for my dramatic day (ok, I am being a drama queen, my debit card got stuck in the ATM earlier. Stay Calm and use your spare credit card!).
I walked in to this den of zen and the staff couldn’t be nicer. After filling out the required paper work, I was taken to a quiet spa area to change and begin my treat. My aesthetician Amber was fantastic. She was very knowledgeable about skincare and before getting started, examined my skin to determine the best course of treatment for my hyper-pigmentation and oily skin. Her recommended treatment was the deep pore cleansing facial, which included cleansing, steaming, extracting and facial massage.
Deep pore facials are extremely beneficial because it cleanses and exfoliates the skin to remove dead skin cells. The steam opens the pores to prepare it for extraction.
I have to say, I was nervous about the extraction part. I have always wanted to try it but for many reasons I stayed away from it. I have dealt with acne for years and I am always concerned about procedures that may exasperate the problem. In the right hands, extractions can be beneficial. It can remove the oils clogging your pores along with black heads and white heads. However, in the wrong hands extractions can cause irritation and scarring.
All of that said, I was in the right hands with Amber. She was patient, answered all of my questions (I had a lot) and recommended a great at home routine for continued glowing skin. Before sending me out to face DC’s scorching heat, she applied a light moisturizer and I was good to go.
If you are in DC and you are looking for a fantastic aesthetician, I highly recommend Hela Spa in Georgetown DC.
