For the past few years, beauty enthusiasts have been using Monistat Chafing Gel as a primer for their makeup.
I know, you are wondering why in the world someone would use this product on their face. I thought the same thing, so here is the scoop. While the chafing gel is from the same company, it has NOTHING to do with the Monistat yeast infection products. This product is used to prevent skin from chafing (i.e. let’s say your thighs rub against each other and cause chafing, this is a great product because is creates a smooth barrier)
The magic ingredient in this product is Dimethicone. Dimethicone creates a barrier for your skin that smooths out the skin’s surface. The chaffing gel works the same way as your other primers and even has the same texture as Smash Box
For the sake of science and my readers, I have tried this primer and I will say it really does work just as well as Smash Box. It makes skin smoother and creates a matte barrier making pores temporarily look smaller similar to other good primers. Beauty magazines such as Glamour have also tested this product and gave it great ratings for its effectiveness.
And here is an added bonus, Monistat chaffing gel is way cheaper than regular primers, in some cases as much as 60% cheaper than high-end foundation/face primers and you get more product.
You can find this product at Target, CVS, Walgreens, Wal-Mart or drugstore.com. Let me know what you think!
