On January 12, 2010, the impoverished Caribbean island of Haiti was struck by a disastrous 7.0 earthquake. It is estimated that more than 100,000 people lost their lives that day. In the following months and years, the global community wrapped its arms around Haiti to provide much needed shelter and aid.
Four years later, my ancestral land is still battling to come back from the brink of disaster. There are many organizations that have stayed beyond the media sound bites to help the people of Haiti including Simbi Haiti. The company generates money for the cause by selling hair ties and headbands that keep Haitians employed and helps raise money to install water filtration systems throughout the country, saving lives.
