Prevent Eyeliner From Running/ Smudging

Taylor momsen

Ah Taylor Momsen, the formerly sweet Jenny from Gossip Girl turned punk rock artist in real life. As you can see she loves her eyeliner, maybe a little too much!

We have all had a Taylor moment, maybe not to this extreme. Picture it, you get all dolled up in the morning before work knowing you are going to meet your friends at the new happy hour hot spot for drinks and a night on the town! So you can imagine the disappointment half way through the day when you notice your favorite eyeliner has smudged and given you the unintended smoky eye or even worse the “I just rolled out of bed panda eyes” after a heavy night of partying.

Have no fear ladies, I have a just the fix. The main culprit of running/ smudging eyeliner tends to be kohl/ pencil liners. Keep in mind, kohl liners are meant to be smudge-able, especially when creating a sultry evening look.

To ensure your eyeliner does not run, you will need an eyeshadow similar to the shade of your liner, a flat eyeshadow brush and off course your eyeliner.

Step 1. Apply your eyeliner

Step 2. Dip the brush into the powder, make sure to get both sides of the brush. Tap the brush to remove excess product.

Step 3. With a flat or angled eyeliner brush, apply the eye shadow over the liner.

Step 4. Voila, no more smudging and you are ready for a night on the town!

I myself use the gel eyeliner from MAC or NYX. When it comes to eyeliner like everything else it is all about preference. What is your favorite liner?  I would love to hear from you!

Oldie But Goodie – MAC Contrast Eyeshadow

We have all been there, you go to the makeup counter, the sales associate at the counter helps you pick out two eyeshadows that complement each other and you go about your merry way. If you are like most people, you never find other ways to use these eyeshadows and they eventually disappear into the landfill of makeup you will never use again. We all have a makeup bins filled with such items. I was going thru my makeup bag the other day and came across  MAC Contrast eyeshadow that I bought in 2011! It was great finding an oldie but goodie. When I purchased the eyeshadow, it was paired with Era shadow. However, this time I decided to pair Contrast with MAC Woodwinked which is a golden shadow. In the crease, I used Stila cosmetics Cocoa. In the outer corner, I used Contrast eyeshadow. I truly believe when it comes to makeup, there may be best practices but no hard rules.

Check out My New Hair Style!

Heading into summer, I decided wanted to make a bit of a change. Ok, I made a pretty big change, I got extensions! I am so happy with the quality of the hair I received. My lovely sister Fabiola, researched and found this great vendor called Kinky Curly Yaki. Their prices are reasonable and they are very responsive. Just in case you are wondering, I am wearing the light yaki.

I decided this time around not to go too crazy with the length, however, I am having so much fun, I think next time around I will go for something more dramatic!

Along with my new hairdo, I also decided I wanted a new ensemble. Now, if you are anything like me, you probably have not been to the GAP in quite awhile. Might I say, I am very happy I stepped back into the GAP because I have been missing out! I found such amazing pieces at really reasonable prices. I am all about mixing high and low priced clothing! Case in point, my bold pink GAP shirt was $6, I paired my outfit with the Lauren Ralph Lauren Newbury Satchel which was $348!

I think most will agree our First Lady Michelle Obama is stunning and often times appears to be wearing minimal makeup. The same can be said of the amazing Cover Girl Ellen DeGeneres. Her makeup, like her style of dress is always easy breezy!

I saw these great make tips on the Huffington Post and thought it would be great to share with you beautiful ladies. Off course I had to add a few of my own tips. For a simple workday look, all you need is mascara, lip gloss, tamed eyebrows and concealer to cover minimal flaws.

Brows: Your eyebrows make such a difference in the way you look. You should always take care to groom your brows on a fairly regular basis. Grab an eyebrow brush (yes, you should definitely own one of these) and groom your brows by brushing in their natural direction of growth. For most women, this is upwards. Fill in any sparse sections with a brow pencil or powder, then brush again to blend product through. Sephora Eye CombSonia Kashuk Eyebrow Comb/Brush

Mascara: Curl your lashes, apply a few coats of mascara, then curl again to instantly wake up your look. If you have an extra two minutes to spare, one of my favorite quick tricks is to line my eyes with a kohl pencil and smudge it out. It is best to use a brown liner instead of black to achieve a softer look. Favorite Mascaras (I love so many of them. Lips: a pink lipstick , tinted or clear gloss not only completes this look, but it creates a more youthful appearance. To change your look from the workday to happy hour , add a bolder lip color, such as a red or deep coral lipstick. Concealer: Add a concealer that is as close to your skin tone as possible. Typically, most makeup artists will say you should use a concealer that is a shade lighter than your skin. However, if you are concealing minor flaws and do not intend on following up with foundation or BB cream always use a concealer that matches your skin tone. This will avoid having random light spots of concealer on your face. Tinted Moisturizer can be used in place of concealer. See previous post on tinted moisturizers.
